Seen

By Bud Koenemund

For Lindsay

"In the right eyes, you will be art." - Unknown

How could any set of eyes miss the art
Contained within you? Even those who don’t
Create illumined by you feel your heart:
Acknowledging grace as artists are wont.
Though it is, in truth, the job of poets
To praise beauty; ‘tis thy inspiration –
Arising from your spirit, more than my wit –
That gives birth to these celebrations
Of radiance. All things, seen and unseen;
Love and lust; denial and desire;
The chaos of black, white, and gray between,
Feed the maelstrom of a mind set fire.
   I must give credit where credit is due:
   The world will know these words belong to you.

The Green-Eyed Girl and the Supermoon

By Bud Koenemund

For Lindsay

The green-eyed girl, like some ethereal
Being, gliding, ghostly in the moonlight,
Guided him across the sand. The feel
Of her hand, warm and soft in his, delighting
Every sense, while his intellect failed;
Yielding all to love, lust, and lunacy.
Reaching the water, she turned, her face veiled
In shadow, and kissed his lips eagerly.
His arms enveloped her, pulling her close –
A beauty, wondrous, to rival that bright
Body celestial – Nature’s awe exposed;
In sky and on earth, a heavenly sight.
   But, like all dreams, this vision could not stay;
   On waking, fantasy faded away.

Wolf and Hind

By Bud Koenemund

For Lindsay

“Is this what you want?” I ask, even as
I squeeze, choking off her breath to reply.
She struggles – tempted and teased; slow and fast –
Her body craves release, which I deny.
Lust will once more transform two into one;
The heat of desire burning our minds;
A hunger for flesh leaves us both undone,
While devouring each like wolf and hind.
Though I am in charge, this domination
Is dual pleasure – mine derived from hers;
Every sense overwhelmed by passion.
When the little death comes, all Reason’s blurred.
   This fire between us can’t be contained;
   Concupiscence – intense and unrestrained.

Unrepentant

By Bud Koenemund

For Lindsay

Lady, I do confess, my desire
For you turns bestial. My thoughts border
On the profane – lust burns like a fire –
While reason collapses in disorder.
The more consumed, the faster madness grows,
And I can scarce trust my own intellect.
In the end, this passion will overthrow
My mind as hunger amplifies unchecked.
For concupiscence, I ask no forgiveness.
Unrepentant – holding appetite
No sin – I seek salvation in excess
When your flesh provides heavenly delight.
   I pray; bless my body and damn my soul
   Eternal; for I will you e’er extoll.

Command Performance

By Bud Koenemund

Just a bit of silliness, really; for D.

O, would-be muse, with skin brown and creamy;
Commanding a little song all your own –
Verses at once poetic and steamy –
While the taste of thy kiss remains unknown.
Shall my pen toil at your beck and call?
Pray, what recompense will this effort gain?
Wilt thou sate these appetites after all?
I do entreat some pleasure for this pain.
Must I rely on fantasy alone
To enkindle such creative fires;
When amorous thoughts leave me all undone,
As I expound on lust and desire?
   Should my words of praise not garner some fee;
   Or, as art for art’s sake, be rendered free?

Touch

By Bud Koenemund

For T.

The electricity of fingertips
Brushing ‘gainst my back creates a maelstrom
In the mind. Rationality is stripped
Away while intellect sputters – struck dumb.
What words can I use to describe your touch;
When every attempt, it seems, falls short;
Leaving language languishing as I clutch
At rhythm and rhymes? I give praise to court
Thy favor, but remain ever aware
Your hand is forbidden to mine; a fact
My brain accepts – though it flays the heart bare,
And sanity spirals in cataract.
   This verse can make no claim to innocence;
   Nor should be damned as mere concupiscence.

Hunger

By Bud Koenemund

For Lindsay

I’ll never again feign lust innocence;
Nor pretend my intentions remain pure.
Rather, I admit this concupiscence;
A heat impossible to endure
When both body and mind burn with desire.
I fear an inferno will engulf all;
Demanding ever more, as the fire
Blazes beyond control. I am enthralled –
My hunger increasing with ev’ry taste –
Being consumed, yet yearning further; the toll
A consequence eagerly embraced,
As I surrender my eternal soul.
   Your perfection would tempt angels toward sin,
   And bring devils back to the light again.

Heaven Help Me

By Bud Koenemund

(Written: January 2021)

Heaven help me, I get lost in your eyes;
My mind enchanted by those circled orbs –
A maelstrom of fantasy spinning – while sighs
Escape from lips longing to kiss yours.
Oh, I must confess, too many waking
Thoughts are consumed by daydreams; my focus
Struggling ‘gainst grace; Reason’s forsaken,
Abandoned to a barely disguised lust.
Yet, even this concupiscence is pure –
A respect undimmed by base desire –
And my heart requires no other cure
But passion, for which I’ll risk Hell’s fire.
   I do revel in thy beauty endued;
   Treasuring ev’ry moment spent with you.

Slow Motion

By Bud Koenemund

(Written: December 2020)

Know’st thou that moment in each Romantic
Comedy, when yon fiery mistress
Doth approach the hapless teen male, flicking
To and fro, with careless ease, her lustrous
Mane; while time – defying reason – passes
In slow motion, and said young man does gawk;
Stupefied – as concupiscence crashes,
O’erwhelming intellect – too stunned to talk?
I have known thee beyond thirty moons full –
My heart being surrendered from the first –
And, though I am mad – thought, by some, a fool –
I swear to you, with passion unrehearsed:
   When I see thee, my entire world stands still;
   Struck dumb, as heavenly choirs trill.

Dragon's Breath

By Bud Koenemund

For Lindsay

I’m thinking of you wearing that turquoise
Sundress; incandescent in the twilight.
Longing sparks a fire; spirits rejoice;
Embracing until o’ertaken by night.
Shadows disguise; clothes bunch ‘round knees and waists;
Mouths meet hungrily, then whispers implore;
Inhibitions are abandoned to haste;
Flames intensify as fingers explore.
Lust envelopes us in the Dragon’s breath;
Two bodies become one, while heat radiates
From flesh demanding a little death:
That paradise where desire’s sated.
   We are consumed when our passion explodes;
   Then reborn to worlds of pleasures untold.

I Make No Secret of My Desire

By Bud Koenemund

For Lindsay

My mind, Lady, I do confess, is filled –
Both awake and in slumber – with fantasies;
Visions erotic from morn through star gilt
Night – illusions bending sanity
Toward madness – dreams that, while wanton, reveal
Subconscious adoration. This lust bears
Certain truth; passion cannot be concealed
For one with whom only Venus compares.
I make no secret of my desire;
A longing, concupiscent to be sure;
Yet, in faith, ‘tis zeal tempered by fire;
Sin purged through the flames, leaving purity.
   But, will transgression be called blasphemy,
   When praising a Goddess in ecstasy?

Ars Gratia Artis

By Bud Koenemund

For Arielle

Life has a certain unfairness in it:
Nature entices heart; lust ignores age,
But fate curses me with visage unfit
To woo. Even still, desire rages.
Enkindled by your grace and intellect –
Beauty which transcends mortal countenance –
Language ignites an inferno unchecked,
Though tendered lacking hope of recompense.
Lady, my admiration is undimmed;
Respect enduring despite passing years,
And this confession – converted to hymn –
Sings a chorus I pray will please thy ear.
   Yours lives on though other memories fade –
   A light immortal; proofed ‘gainst end of days.

Ten Years Owed

By Bud Koenemund

For Arielle

Once, I presented you with broken prose –
A fool fumbling to reveal affection;
Though much remained unsaid, my heart frozen
By the fear of defeat and rejection.
Thou art fairer than any I’ve beheld;
Azure eyes, radiant as sapphires,
Charm; skin of porcelain in mem’ry dwells,
Setting imagination on fire.
Oh, Muse; these words were owed a decade past.
But, timid, I withheld, respecting age
Despite attraction; avoiding trespass
Or offense; leaving passion unengaged.
   Embers of spirit rekindle this blaze,
   And I must beg pardon for tardy praise.

Guilty in Silence

By Bud Koenemund

For Arthur H. Monigold

He told me not to tell, and I didn’t.
His own grandson – once untainted; trusting –
Protecting a monster whose sin imprints
The soul, poisoning innocence with lust;
Breeding this maelstrom raging through my brain:
Lightning strikes of emotion – wrath and shame;
Hate and self-doubt – a tempest unconstrained.
Yet, misery lurks darkest in that blame
I carry for silence. An accomplice
To evil; remaining mute as he forced
This curse upon others; rending solace
From family: a guilt beyond recourse.
   Though my flesh bears no scar, memory steals
   Peace with injuries time will never heal.

Breath

By Bud Koenemund

For K.

My hand was made to fit around your throat,
Enjoying the warmth of caramel skin,
Denying breath as my tongue darts and floats
Over flesh, blissfully drinking you in.
I squeeze, while you gasp, clutching at my wrist;
Mind struggling ‘gainst body’s desire,
A loss of control neither can resist –
Surrendering to burn in this fire;
The passion raging ‘til la petite mort
Erupts with a maelstrom of ecstasy;
Our pleasure and pain thunder as we court
That death before collapsing breathlessly.
   Domination and submission feed lust,
   But love matures in these displays of trust.

Seduction by Art

By Bud Koenemund

For Lindsay

My ambition is seduction by art;
Tempting with lyrics that dance across skin,
As poetry speaks love from tongue to heart;
Stirring desire which blesses such sin.
Your form fires the imagination,
Shaping rhyme; verses take life in those eyes,
And a gloved hand could cause an eruption:
Expressions of fervor for one enskied.
I pray these words will arouse ecstasy –
Undressing body and mind; illicit
Acts to satiate lust: a melody
Of moans unifying flesh with spirit.
   My passion grows beyond concupiscence;
   An oath I trust will excuse this offense.

Madness and Muse

By Bud Koenemund

For "Her."

"A thing of beauty is a joy forever." - John Keats

I hold your memory against my will;
Sentiment which imperils sanity
When every thought and dream reminds me still
Of the fool who gave devotion blindly.
But, this world won’t stop for a broken heart.
Indifferent to pain, both moon and sun
Rise, shine, then retire without regard;
Beg heaven for pity, you’ll receive none.
These things I desire can never be
Real. Love, fidelity lasting past death –
Blessed by madness and muse – is fantasy;
Affection shrouded in the dragon’s breath.
   Misery, it seems, lives joy’s companion;
   Torment entwined with beauty and passion.

Heart for Heart

By Bud Koenemund

For "Her."

My affection was never held secret;
Attraction confessed; with all its defects,
Sentiment lay exposed from the outset;
Unguarded; lust defeating intellect.
I offered self, desiring the same –
Heart for heart, hand for hand, and soul for soul;
Love enkindling passion without shame;
Intense spirits blazing beyond control.
But, yearning could not win respect, and pleas
Fell on ears deaf to solicitation.
Emotion withered, leaving me lonely,
As desolation replaced devotion.
   Despite intention pure, and honor sworn,
   Everything was too much to ask for.

Guilt

By Bud Koenemund

For T.

I stand guilty; entrapped in self-made plight.
Abandoned by fate, sans defense, I fear,
‘Gainst offenses for which I am indict:
Those of madman, lover, and sonneteer.
I did not think this fervor illicit –
Seeking favor by show of affection.
But, it seems my passion’s too explicit;
And heart’s at fault for miscalculation.
The crime? Infatuation. Foul sin? Lust.
Although I swear my intention was pure,
This imperfect world oft’ inhibits trust,
So your pen wrought the prison I endure.
   Though I’ll not carry this shame forever,
   I must lament the amity severed.

Fair Comparison to Things Enskied

By Bud Koenemund

For Melissa B.

What would you desire; words enchanting
Your heart, or igniting flames in thy soul?
I can wield them; create by descanting
Upon love and veiled lust with quill and scroll.
Inspired by a grace unseen, my pen
Takes flight, striving to reveal some small truth
With verse; granting immortality when
Thy mem’ry lives on in eternal youth.
Let those lips I long for whisper the tune,
And rhymes will flow praising sapphire eyes,
Brighter, by fancy, than the Sun and Moon –
But, fair comparison to things enskied.
   A new muse fires imagination,
   And I return songs of adulation.
